The call
The $20 gap buys locations, vehicles and two activities the Standard edition never gets. Nothing else: no story content, no early access, no progression advantage.
Playing the story once and moving on? Standard is enough: the extras unlock late and change nothing about the plot. Staying in Vice City after the credits? Ultimate adds shops, garages and a car collection to chase.
There is a third route: buy Standard now, add the upgrade module later. Rockstar allows that switch at any point, disc copies included.

Grand Theft Auto VI arrives on November 19, 2026 in two editions, $79.99 and $99.99, and no others. The 16 items behind that $20 gap include exactly two things to do, and the upgrade can be bought later for the same total.

GTA 6 code in a box: $79.99, no disc, no resale, no trade-in
The GTA 6 box on shelves at Walmart, Target and GameStop costs $79.99, the same price as the download, and holds a code rather than a disc. Redeem that code and the copy belongs to the account for good.
