GTA 6 alternatives: 8 open-world crime games to play now

Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. With 30 days to go, eight open-world crime games already play on PS5, listed at $29.99 to $69.99 on the US PlayStation Store as of October 20, 2026. All eight are on Xbox too; only PlayStation prices were checked.

Rockstar’s own two first

GTA 5, the last entry in the GTA series before GTA 6, is the closest match. Michael, Franklin and Trevor split the story, where GTA 6 has two, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Red Dead Redemption 2 opens after a robbery goes wrong in Blackwater, and Arthur Morgan spends the game on the run with the Van der Linde gang. The PlayStation Store still sells the PS4 version, noting that it is “playable on PS5” but “some features available on PS4 may be absent.” Rockstar’s numbers for both games sit side by side in GTA 6 vs Red Dead Redemption 2.

Three Mafia games, two of them new on PS5 since August

2K released Mafia: Definitive Edition on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on August 14, 2026, then Mafia III: Definitive Edition on October 8, 2026, both pitched “with 60 FPS gameplay.” Mafia III sits closest to GTA 6 on the map: New Bordeaux is “a Louisiana city ruled by the mob” in the American Southeast. Paul MacPherson, Rockstar’s senior vice president of environment art, told Game Informer that Leonida’s locations are “geared to getting that full Florida experience,” as IGN reported on September 30, 2026.

Mafia: The Old Country, out August 8, 2025, goes back to 1900s Sicily. Enzo Favara wants to become “a man of honor in the Torrisi crime family,” and gets around on foot, on horseback or in “turn-of-the-century motorcars.”

Series from other publishers

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, from Sega, is the only pick built around a duo like GTA 6: Ichiban Kasuga and Kazuma Kiryu, between Japan and Hawaii. Its store page promises “RPG battles.”

Saints Row, from Deep Silver, is about building a criminal empire across Santo Ileso, a fictional city of nine districts in the Southwest desert. Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs: Legion lets players recruit anyone on the street in a near-future London.

On October 20, 2026, six of the eight were on sale on the US PlayStation Store: Red Dead Redemption 2 at $14.99, Mafia: The Old Country at $29.99, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth at $17.49, Saints Row at $7.49, and both Mafia: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition at $5.99. None of the listings shows an end date.
