GTA 6: the only console discounts on the record in the US

Microsoft is the only console maker with a discount in writing against the raised prices: certified refurbished machines up to $100 under list. On the PlayStation side, no US refurbished figure was recorded for this page on August 29, 2026.

Microsoft is the only one of the two console makers to have put a discount in writing this year. The June 25, 2026 statement that raised Xbox prices from August 1, by 100 dollars on the 512 GB models and 150 dollars on the 1 TB ones, also points buyers to certified refurbished consoles sold up to 100 dollars under the recommended price, to interest-free installment plans, to 0 percent financing over twelve months and to trade-in through partner retailers.

That is a ceiling, not a price. No per-model refurbished figure appears in the statement, and none was recorded for this page on August 29, 2026, 82 days before Grand Theft Auto VI ships. List price is still the only number worth quoting, and the trade-off between the two families is laid out in PS5 or Xbox Series X.

PlayStation figures from the PlayStation Blog post of March 27, 2026, US Xbox figures as listed by VGC on June 25, 2026. Every line is tracked model by model in our console price page.

Sony announced its own increase on March 27, 2026, effective April 2, and set the PlayStation Portal at $249.99. That post says nothing about refurbished machines. The three certified refurbished PS5s verified on August 28, 2026, sold with a twelve month manufacturer warranty and free returns, sit on Sony’s French store and were priced in euros by Numerama. Those euro readings are not converted here, and no US refurbished PS5 price was taken.

Scale, for anyone comparing with 2020: TweakTown put the gap between the PS5’s launch price and its 2026 price at 200 dollars on July 31, 2026. Residual pre-increase stock is the other route, and the only survey of it published on August 28, 2026 covered French retailers, not American ones. Whether the $899.99 machine earns its premium for this game is weighed in our PS5 Pro guide.

One line of that table is worth ignoring here. The 50 dollars between the two PS5 models, like the 50 dollars between the two Series X models, buys a drive GTA VI never reads: Rockstar’s own store page states that “Physical versions will only contain a download code inside the box to support pre-load on November 12. A disc will not be included in the box.”
