Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI opened on June 25, 2026, with the Standard edition at $79.99 in the United States. That figure remains the floor across every American retailer recorded since, from Amazon to GameStop.

: Costco's $100 PlayStation card at $79.99 until October 11 joins the gift card table, the deepest cut recorded on the Ultimate.

GTA 6's Standard edition sells for $79.99 in the United States, and no American retailer has been recorded below that price since pre-orders opened. Take-Two set the figure in its release of June 24, 2026, with the Ultimate Edition at $99.99. The next day, IGN's Robert Anderson found the same $79.99 on the boxed copy at Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Target and GameStop.

Where Standard Ultimate Source and date
PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store $79.99 $99.99 Take-Two, June 24, 2026
Rockstar Store, code in a box $79.99 no boxed version Rockstar Store page, August 28, 2026
Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Target, GameStop $79.99 no boxed version IGN, June 25, 2026
Best Buy, Target, PS5 and Xbox listings $79.99 no boxed version GTA6 LIFE, September 16, 2026
Amazon.com, PS5 and Xbox boxes $79.99 no boxed version GTA6 LIFE, September 14, 2026
Target, PS5 box $79.99 no boxed version Target page, September 28 and October 20, 2026
Ultimate Edition Upgrade, Microsoft Store $20.00 Microsoft Store US page, September 20 and 27, October 1, 11 and 20, 2026
Ultimate Edition Upgrade, PlayStation Store “Not available for purchase” PlayStation Store US page, September 20 and 27, October 1, 11 and 20, 2026

The shelves were read again on September 16, 2026: $79.99 and in stock on the Target box, $79.99 and $99.99 on the Microsoft Store, which dates the release 11/19/2026. Best Buy’s member game offer page, read the same day, carried the PS5 and the Xbox Series X|S box at that same $79.99. Amazon, read two days earlier, sold and shipped both boxes itself and dated delivery to November 12, 2026.

Target was read again on September 20, 21 and 28, 2026, and its PS5 box showed $79.99 each time, tagged on September 28 as its regular price. On October 20, 2026, a month before release, the same box still read $79.99 and “In Stock”, with no sale label. Almost four months after IGN’s line, the American shelf has not moved a cent.

The Ultimate cannot be bought in a box at all. Rockstar’s support page reads: “A physical version of the Grand Theft Auto VI: Ultimate Edition is not available.” A Standard owner can add the Ultimate Edition Upgrade after redeeming the download code, and the American Microsoft Store carried it at $20.00 when the page was read on September 20, 2026, under a pre-order button and the line “Requires a game”. So $79.99 plus $20.00 is $99.99, the Ultimate price to the cent, and buying in two steps saves nothing.

The PlayStation Store page for that same upgrade read “Not available for purchase” that day, with no price on it, so the two-step route can be priced on Xbox and not on PlayStation. Both pages said the same on October 11 and again on October 20, 2026: $20.00 on the Microsoft Store, next to the Standard at $79.99 and the Ultimate at $99.99, and empty price fields on the PlayStation Store.

Rockstar’s collector’s box costs five times the Standard edition and holds no copy of the game. The Goodtime State, Vice City Collection, put on pre-order on September 24, 2026 “while supplies last”, still showed $399.99 and a “Pre-Order Now” button on October 20, 2026. Its page reads “Grand Theft Auto VI game sold separately”: box plus Standard edition comes to $479.98 before tax.

No bonus belongs to one seller. “There aren’t store-exclusive preorder bonuses, so you can buy from wherever you prefer without missing out on trinkets,” wrote Brad Bourque in The Verge on July 5, 2026. What separates them at that price is the delivery date: GamesRadar reported on June 29, 2026 that Walmart, Best Buy and Amazon promise November 12, while GameStop holds to November 19. Best Buy now writes the split into the product name itself, “Code in Box, Delivers 11/12/26, Playable 11/19/26”, on the PS5 and the Xbox listing alike, and Target says the same on its own page. Seven days of pre-load separate the two dates.

Best Buy does pay something extra, but only to a buyer who also needs the hardware. Its My Best Buy offer, still online on October 20, 2026, gives members a $50 certificate when the GTA VI pre-order comes with “a new or refurbished gaming console”, PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. The certificate is issued “on approximately 11/25/26” and stays “valid for 45 days from issuance”, and “Console and game bundles do not qualify for this promotion.” It is capped at one certificate per member, and the page voids it “if the console or game is returned or canceled”, so a cancelled pre-order forfeits the $50.

No discount has reached the game itself, but retailers keep cutting the price of the store credit used to buy it. Four offers between September 3 and October 11, 2026:

Offer Code Ultimate at $99.99 costs, before tax Reported by
Newegg, $100 PlayStation Store card for $88, September 3, 2026, one day LDSF378 $88 IGN
Newegg, two $50 Xbox cards at $45 each, September 4, 2026, until midnight LDSF373 $90 IGN
Newegg, $100 PlayStation Store card for $90, October 3, 2026, three cards per customer TEFF427 $90 Notebookcheck
Costco, $100 PlayStation card for $79.99, until October 11, 2026 none $79.99 GamingBible

Costco’s was the deepest cut, $20 off the Ultimate. Beebom described it on October 6 as four $25 cards; the Costco listing read on October 24, 2026 shows a single $100 digital code, “Limit 3 Per Member” and “Downloads to US Addresses Only”, with no price left on it.

On September 4, IGN’s Chris Reed wrote that Newegg “offers discounts on PlayStation and Xbox gift cards fairly often” and that the deal would likely “come back around before the big launch”. The October 3 code is that return, saving $10 where the first saved $12. Notebookcheck notes the PlayStation card works on U.S. accounts only and that Newegg lists digital gift cards as non-refundable. Put toward the Standard at $79.99, $100 of credit leaves $20.01 sitting in the account, so the saving only counts for someone who spends the rest. The pre-order bonus survives that detour: Take-Two’s release of June 24, 2026 attaches the Vintage Vice City Pack to every pre-order and every purchase made before November 20, 2026, and credit spent on the PlayStation Store still buys the game on the PlayStation Store.

Rockstar has announced no promotion and no price cut for the end of 2026, and Strauss Zelnick was still defending the number on August 7, 2026: “I think that Rockstar feels that offering phenomenal value at $80 makes sense for some consumers.” Asked on CNBC three days later whether the price would drop before Christmas, he passed the question to the shops: “We obviously establish our pricing, and then storefronts can do what they do. We don’t have any ability to control that. So if they reduce the price, they’re obviously reducing their margin on the sale.” He then pointed to the last game: “we preserved our pricing on Grand Theft Auto 5 for a very long time, much longer than a standard release of an entertainment property,” as VGC reported on August 11, 2026.
