GTA 6 on PC: no date, no store page, no requirements yet
Rockstar's support page, updated June 24, 2026, still lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and nothing else. With 82 days to go before November 19, 2026, the studio's own port record runs from seven months to fourteen years.
GTA6 LIFE

No PC version of Grand Theft Auto VI has been announced, 82 days before the game ships on November 19, 2026. The Rockstar Games support page on platforms, editions and versions, updated on June 24, 2026, answers the question in one sentence: “You can pre-order Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S”. The studio’s product page carries two platform badges and stops there. On its own listing, Sony writes that the game “will only be playable on PlayStation 5 consoles. It will not be available for PlayStation 4 consoles”.
No date, no window, no Steam page, no system requirements, not even the name of a storefront. The Microsoft Store listing, checked on August 28, 2026, carries a single platform capability: “Optimized for Xbox Series X|S”. Take-Two has never given a PC timeline, earnings calls included, and the subject was already missing from the December 2023 announcement.
The one public explanation goes back to May 5, 2026, when Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick spoke at TD Cowen’s 52nd annual Technology, Media and Telecom conference:
Rockstar always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that you’re judged by serving the core. Like really serving the core consumer.
Asked whether a Sony marketing arrangement explains the missing PC version, he waved the idea away in a single line: “I mean, historically, Rockstar’s gone to console first.” The argument is historical. The history has numbers.

Seven months, then eighteen, then fourteen years
North American dates, from console launch to the day the port shipped.
| Game | Console release | PC release | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA III | October 23, 2001 | May 21, 2002 | about 7 months |
| Vice City | October 29, 2002 | May 13, 2003 | about 6 and a half months |
| San Andreas | October 26, 2004 | June 7, 2005 | about 7 and a half months |
| GTA IV | April 29, 2008 | December 2, 2008 | 7 months and 3 days |
| GTA V | September 17, 2013 | April 14, 2015 | 18 months and 28 days |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | October 26, 2018 | November 5, 2019 | 12 months and 10 days |
| Red Dead Redemption | 2010 | October 2024 | 14 years |
Two eras sit in that right-hand column. In the PlayStation 2 years the port landed around seven months later, almost on a schedule: GTA III in May 2002, Vice City in May 2003, San Andreas in June 2005. Then the pattern breaks. GTA IV kept the old pace at 7 months and 3 days. GTA V took 18 months and 28 days. Red Dead Redemption 2 needed 12 months and 10 days to reach the Rockstar Games Launcher and the Epic Games Store on November 5, 2019, then another month to reach Steam.
The GTA V port is the only one Rockstar ever dated in advance. It was revealed at E3 2014 alongside the PS4 and Xbox One versions and meant to ship with them. It slipped twice, through two Newswire posts: from January 7, 2015 to March 24, and finally to April 14, 2015.
The bottom row belongs to a different category. Red Dead Redemption, released in 2010, was not ported to PC until October 2024, according to the reissue calendar Take-Two published in its August 2026 investor presentation. Fourteen years. The case does not transfer to GTA 6, but it sets a floor: nothing obliges Rockstar to ship a port at all.
Average the three most recent ports, GTA IV, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, and the gap comes to a little under thirteen months, which would place a PC version somewhere in late 2027. That is arithmetic on three dates, not a piece of news, and the guide on when a PC version could arrive sets out what it rests on.
The 30 fps ceiling, and one former animator’s bet
The 30 frames per second ceiling attributed to Rockstar North co-director Rob Nelson, reported on August 27, 2026, applies to consoles. No performance mode is planned for launch, and what was said exactly is worth reading closely: the quote did not come from the Newswire.
Mike York, a former Rockstar animator on GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, placed his bet on the Kiwi Talkz podcast on January 29, 2025:
I bet you, like, later, once it’s on PC, it’ll probably get super optimized and changed and new graphics cards that come out and you’ll be able to run it at 60fps probably at that time.
York left Rockstar in 2017 and has no inside knowledge of GTA VI. He marks the limit of his own point: “I don’t know what they’re doing over there.” The record supports half of it. On console, GTA V got a 60 fps mode only with the PS5 and Xbox Series release of March 15, 2022, 8 years and 6 months after the original, and Red Dead Redemption 2 has still never received a 60 fps update on current machines.
Anyone buying hardware before November is picking between PS5 and Xbox Series X, with no third option as of August 29, 2026. The silence runs wider than PC: Rockstar has not said whether GTA 6 will be upgraded for the next console generation, and a Nintendo Switch 2 version has never been mentioned.
