GTA 6 30fps report: 'targeting' is not 'confirmed'
Console versions of GTA 6 are running at 30 frames per second during this phase of development, according to Rob Nelson remarks reported on August 27, 2026 by a Brazilian creator. Rockstar Games itself has published no figure.
GTA6 LIFE

Console builds of Grand Theft Auto VI are running at 30 frames per second during this phase of development, according to remarks from Rob Nelson reported on August 27, 2026. The Rockstar North co-director did not put it in a press release: he said it to Davy Jones, a Brazilian creator invited to Edinburgh in the run-up to the Extended Look.
The chain of transmission matters as much as the number. Jones wrote the exchange up for the Brazilian site Flow Games, in Portuguese. Kotaku carried it that evening through a machine translation, and Video Games Chronicle followed on August 28. No step in that chain adds a source.
The Flow Games text reads:
According to Rob Nelson, Lead Developer and Co-director at Rockstar North, during this development period, the consoles are running the game at 30 frames per second. According to the director, it is still necessary to consult the technical team to determine if there will be a 60 FPS option at launch (or in the future).
The words are “during this development period”, not “at launch”. Nelson gave no resolution figure, said nothing about ray tracing, and ruled out no 60fps mode. Push Square read it as covering every console, PS5 Pro included.
One remark, two headlines
VGC ran “GTA 6 is confirmed to run at 30 frames per second” on August 28. Push Square, the day before, ran “GTA 6 Targeting 30fps on PS5, Undecided on Performance Mode”. Two solid outlets, one secondhand quote, one verb that changes everything. Rockstar Games has published no frame rate: not on the Newswire, not on the product page, not on the support article updated June 24, 2026, checked on August 28, 2026.
The one measurable thing is the picture. Digital Foundry went through the 26 minutes and 48 seconds of the Extended Look on August 28, captured in game on a base PlayStation 5, and reads an internal rendering resolution of about 1440p pushed to 4K by what looks like a plain spatial upscale, over a “relatively stable and well-paced 30FPS output, with only very occasional single frame drops”. Call it 33.3 ms a frame, held.
Push Square polled its readers on August 27: of 2,781 votes, 31 percent said 30fps would do, 27 percent wanted 40, 25 percent will not go below 60.
No graphics modes have been announced, no 40fps option either, and the “PS5 Pro Enhanced” tag on the PlayStation store page comes with no detail. GTA V waited for the Expanded and Enhanced release of March 15, 2022 to get a 60fps mode, 8 years and 6 months on. Red Dead Redemption 2 has never received one on console.
The usual escape route is shut. No PC version has been announced 83 days out from the November 19, 2026 release. And Digital Foundry noted on June 29, 2026 that the PS5 Pro “only offers a fractional CPU performance bump over base PS5”, which is where the drop from 33.3 to 16.7 ms would have to come from.
